I have returned my Nokia 9 ; It Needs a LOT of work When I bought the Nokia 9, it was for obvious intentions. The 5 pentalens camera array. Its supposed great dynamic range and 1200 depth layers that can create some amazing shots.
What I got instead felt like an incomplete product. Having owned every Pureview camera prior (920, 1020, 1520, 950XL) my expectations were pretty high. Sadly the phone fails to deliever in its one crucial element: PHOTOGRAPHY.
Among my issues with the phone:
-Raw processing time. I want to be able to quickly view my recently taken photos. This is a huge annoyance with this phone.
-JPEG processing. Its HORRIBLE. There's absolutely nothing point and shoot about this phone. Yes I get its a photographers phone, but I should be able to quickly upload a JPG quality shot to Instagram/Facebook without having to worry about postprocessing to make a photo look nice. If I have to postprocess every single dang photo, forget it. Not happening.
-Horrible noise reduction. The phone just simply doesn't have it right now. Perhaps in a future software update, but we can't go off "promises".
-Crushed shadows. This is in relation to the JPEGS but may is it absolutely putrid on this phone.
-Absolutely zero night capability. With lack of OIS and no software enhancements like Night Mode on Pixel 3, u can forget night photography for the most part. There are times when it can produce nice shots (think neon lights in a bright city) but anything near low light, FORGET IT. Not happening. What good is 3 monochrome sensors when your 2RGBs are only 2/3rds as effective at collecting color info.
-Lack of bootloader unlock. I need bootloader unlock to butter the experience. I'm willing to void the warranty. I hate not having a choice.
Its just the overall unpolished nature of the phone and the extra amount of work I have to put in to create a pleasing photo is the reason why I have returned the phone. This phone isn't Pureview. A true Pureview experience puts an imaging software experience and hardware experience first. Where's the dedicated shutter button? Where's your Xenon flash? A lot of this phone seems to be a big huge parlor trick (look at me I have 5 cameras on the back and can shoot bokeh).
I have returned back to my ORIGINAL pureview, the Lumia 950XL.
