而且，以府上小朋友的年齡，適應性會比你以為的強多了。
I am not 40 yet but close. From your description of 150k annual, housing and car allawances, I think it will put you in much better place than most of normal family.
Don't worry about income tax. With credits for 2 kids ($2000) and some other deductions, you will not be paying too much tax. And, I am talking about using TurboTax for your income tax filing.
The cost of food/gas/clothing is not as high as you think. I can even tell you that it can be lower than in Taiwan.
Of couse, there are expensive places to shop, it is because this is Silicon Valley, there are places for ultra-rich people to shop. There are also places for rich people to shop.
Please keep in mind that Silicon Valley is also home for a lot of illegal immigrants. Also, a lot of people who make a living without good jobs. They can make a living here comfortably. So, cost of living is really not as high as you think.
I think education can only be better. In my daugther's class, she has classmates of White, Black, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Taiwan. I think this kind of multi-culture experience can only be had in very few parts of the world. In Taiwan, I used to have classmates who live outside of Taiwan and are very good at English. So, even a short 3 years of aboard experience can be a big part of your kids live.
Lastly, this kind of life experience, I think it is very hard to come-by. You may even find that you like to live in US than in Taiwan at the end. Your kids may like here better. The best part of it, this is low-risk. You don't need to worry house, cars, and job. They will all be assisted.
Even if you do not like it at the end, and move back to Taiwan. I think your kids will remember this through their life. Summer at half-moon bay, SantaCruz boardwalk, Winter at Tahoe. And, possible many road trips to Disney, LasVegas, Yosemite, ... etc.
