The team will see how Tanaka responds to treatment, and there's a chance he could return to the mound in six weeks if the program is effective. However, if his rehab doesn't go as planned, Tommy John surgery will likely be the next course of action, which would sideline him for at least a full calendar year. This is clearly a major hit for both the Yankees and fantasy owners, as the Japanese phenom had sported a 12-4 record with a 2.51 ERA and 1.01 WHIP before going down to injury. In the worst-case scenario where surgery is necessary, Tanaka likely wouldn't be back on the mound for the Yankees until the second half of next season, leaving his value heading into next year cloudy at best.
