Tiago Splitter 來自巴西，初入 NBA 就效力馬刺，受到 Pop 教練的薰陶，也算名教之徒弟。

雖然開幕戰輸給了灰狼，但由 Splitter 接掌的後續 5 戰，在 Avdija 等一票年輕人強勢出擊，擊敗了勇士、湖人和金塊等強敵。Avdija 開季 6 戰，場均 22.7 分、6 籃板與 4.2 助攻。再加上老將 J. Holiday 回春的發揮，有 18.2 分與 8.7 次助攻的水準。看起來，團隊的走向就是年輕化，只有主控 J. Holiday 例外。以色列籍的 Avdija 才 24 歲，另外三名新秀 S. Sharpe（加拿大籍）、D. Clingan和 T. Camara（比利時）都不滿 26 歲。

拓荒者今年首輪第 16 順位的楊翰森，本以為能在開季後光芒四射，確在前畢總被逮後，幾乎被新總 Tiago Splitter 棄用。拓荒者的年輕小將，個個都很爭氣，卡住位置。

僅管，去年的新秀中鋒 D. Clingan 也沒有爆炸性的成長，場均 8 分、8.9 籃板，他的替補機會，Tiago Splitter 也是交給更資深的 R. Williams III 與 D. Reath，完全不給楊翰森登場。Splitter 至今為止，似乎是打算把每一場都當最後一場在拼，想擺脫擺爛練兵的惡夢。

楊翰森合計 5 場，1.8 分、0.8 籃板，命中率僅 22.2%（2-9）。

其實，與其讓楊翰森等待上場機會，讓他去 G League 維持比賽狀態，學習適應比賽與累積經驗，反而可能更有幫助。
