The re-signing of J.J. Barea is "close" to a sure thing for the Mavericks. Dallas is likely to sign Barea with its $2.8 million room exception, meaning any deal for Jeremy Lin becomes increasingly more complicated. After returning to the Mavericks last season, the pint-sized point guard is unlikely to leave again. Considering Dallas' depth at point guard, Barea could be a sneaky fantasy option for next season.
David West has agreed to terms with the Spurs for the veteran minimum. He is going to leave about $11 million on the table to join the Spurs. Madness. Anyway, the Spurs have essentially swapped out Tiago Splitter and Aron Baynes for West and LaMarcus Aldridge for their frontcourt rotation. West is almost certainly going to see his 28.7 minutes per game from last season take a hit, so his fantasy value will suffer. He'll be asked to step up on the nights Tim Duncan gets a DNP-OLD. As for the reality side of things, the Spurs look really good.
