老鷹總教練皮爾斯（Lloyd Pierce）日前接受亞特蘭大媒體訪問，他提到對於林書豪復健進度感到滿意，不過對於球隊下季將會指派誰擔任先發控衛則是暫時還未有答案。
皮爾斯指出：「林書豪才正在適應亞特蘭大這座新城市，並且他也還在設法把去年傷勢拋諸腦後，不過我會說他看起來狀況很好，復健進度也按照時程在走。下周二我們會開始訓練營，然後直到10月17號開季，我們會再持續追蹤他的狀況。」
當被問到較屬意新秀楊恩（Trae Young）或林書豪擔任先發控衛時，皮爾斯回答：「這會是一場競爭，我想這也是籃球最美妙的地方。等下個月我們更清楚林書豪狀況，還有他跟楊恩之間競爭是誰較佔優勢，我們會再看看該作怎樣決定。，」
至於楊恩先前曾透露，很期待新賽季有林書豪擔任自己場上、場下的導師，他則對於先發與否表示：「我們會等待教練作出怎樣決定，但是我不會把自己心思都擺在這上頭，我知道無論如何我都會有上場打球的機會，我需要做的是把我本身能控制的事做好。」
