Two Taiwanese nationals will face court today, charged with importing approximately four and a half kilograms of crystal methamphetamine through Brisbane International Airport.
Australian Border Force (ABF) officers selected a 20-year-old man for examination after he arrived on a flight from Taipei yesterday (April 19). Further investigations revealed he was travelling with a 19-year-old man who arrived in Brisbane on a later flight.
Officers identified that both men were wearing braces strapped to their bodies. Further examination revealed a crystalline substance concealed within the braces. The substance was tested and returned a presumptive positive indication for methamphetamine.
Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers attended and arrested the men.
The AFP will allege that the men imported methamphetamine with a combined weight of approximately four and half kilograms strapped to their bodies.
Both men will face the Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with:
import a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, namely methamphetamine, contrary to section 307.1(1) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).
These charges carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
