The inlet was not enlarged for Block 42 and 52 models, only Block 40 and 50 (and 30D and up).
The difference is in the engine manufacturer and engine design, not the power of the engine. The GE F110 engine has a higher mass airflow requirement than the P&W F100 engine, that is what necessitated the requirement for the larger intake for the GE-powered models.
The GE engine can use the smaller NSI intake as evidenced by its use on Block 30 thru 30C F-16s but the engine performance is limited by the amount of air mass it can get thru the smaller intake. Optimal installed power for F110-GE equipped F-16s is achieved with the MCID intake.
The P&W engine can use the larger MCID intake as evidenced by its use on the MCID-equipped VISTA airframe but the engine does not need all of the airflow the MCID is capable of. Optimal installed power for F100-PW equipped F-16s is achieved with the NSI intake.

The F-16/79 demonstrator is another example of how the intake system must be matched to the installed engine requirements. The F-16/79 used a version of the venerable GE J79 turbojet engine (the F100-PWs and F110-GEs are turbofans) and had much lower mass airflow requirements than the F100-PW, so much so that a special intake had to be designed for and installed on the F-16/79 demonstrator.
