Depending on how many interceptors the Patriot is able to launch at each incoming ballistic missile and on the probability that an interceptor will kill the missile, it is plausible to assume that between five and 15 ballistic missiles simultaneously arriving at the Patriot radar will overwhelm its self-defense capability and kill it. Table 1.5 shows the total missiles required with different assumptions of the number of simultaneously arriving missiles needed to overwhelm Taiwan’s nine Patriot and 12 TK III batteries.
