Executability check & wceload tools for S3

Bumped into these 2 utilities that appear to be able to help install tools from other platforms (e.g. PPC) onto S3 or J720 according to the Jap translation. Both tested running on S3.

Anybody any success to share?

1) ExecutabilityCheck V1.02

2) Wceload Extension tool V1.0(SigmarionIII)

Thanks.

Hmm..

1) is a tool that checks and modify the .exe file, to make it possible to run on SIII

2) ... I don't know what it exactly work, but I think it's about .cab files @@

in the bottom of the page, there are DUMMY DLLs, to make PPC programs run on SIII... but it didn't apply for all cases :)

Thanks CornGuo for your comment. Really appreciate that ...

Some info to share from Sean in Yahoo Handheld group and hopefully these would be useful for those who want to explore S3 further....

I have been testing the tools out myself. The WCELoad allows me to install any apps bypassing the platform or CPU checking. After installation, the ExecutabiltyCheck tool tells me what files (e.g. dlls) are missing. Sean has provided a case how he used the tool to make one more application runs on S3. I have been trying these out on Acrobat Reader PPC 2.0, seeing progress but still cannot resolve one last item...

Believe these tools would be useful for those who are eyeing some applications but previously not able to run on S3. Now some tools to give you one more chance!

These tools unlock the S3 even further!!!!

The WCELoad tool is definitely the one that bypasses the checks that
otherwise prohibit you from running setup programs. after hard
resets, this is the first program installed. I almost never hex edit
anymore. However.....

Thanks for alerting me to the ExecutabilityCheck tool. See, I really
wanted to run XSForms http://www.grandasoft.com/Products/ . It would
install, but then the exe wouldn't RUN. Look at the site! It's a
very cool program! Free, even! ListPro 3 is better for most of my
purposes, but this one is definitely cool, so I kept the program in
mind. Then I see this tool you found. I figure it may help. Well, I
couldn't figure out exactly what to do, but it DID tell me which DLL
was missing when I tried to run XSForms: ATL300.DLL. Seems it's an
old version (we have ATL400.dll on the S3, but no legacy versions).
I spent 2 hours searching for the file online when it occurred to me
that I may be able to hack to exe. I opened it in my hex editor and
changed the reference from atl300.dll to atl400.dll (yes, one byte)
and now it works!!!! I downloaded the editor and made a form that
was 800px X 480px and it worked! I believe we'll find other
programs that didn't work on the S3, but will after some hex editing
(or otherwise find the correct DLLs that are not there and can be
found)

YAYAYAY
I am very happy :)

(I was able to get listpro 4.01 to run even without this fix, but
the display won't work right at all, so this won't help everything,
but I am certain it will help some programs!!!!!!)

Sean!

More usage to share... extracted from Yahoo Handheld User Group. Thanks for contribution from Sean and Rgisondi.

Additional finding: The zip file has inside the coreldl3.dll that is a fake
corell.dll written for 4.1 OS. So canging coerll.dll in coreldl3.dll other apps that refused to work on S3 (error message is not a valid windows ce application) now
will work.

OOOOH.. Now I get it!
When you click "Rewrite Lib Name" the list you see are items that
can be tapped into rename mode. After you rename a library, press
overwrite. I used the hitherto non-working PEInfo program to test,
and I changed coredll.dll to coredl3.dll and the program now works!
Before, I went into my hex editor, but now I see what this program
does. I could have done it without going into the hex editor :)
Thanks so much for helping, rgisondi! Now, I want to find
more "nonworking" programs! :) ...I presume one can doctor XSForms
with this, too. ...

.. .. OK, I just checked it. I changed my already-changed ATLCE400
back to 300 and I got the proper message saying it wasn't right. I
tried to change back to 400 and it did work, but the program was
hanging with the hourglass. I did a soft reset and the XSForms
works. I love these big breakthroughs :) I do hope someone can
figure out how to make the CE menus show up on the top, instead of
the bottom of the screen. I imagine it's probably one byte that
needs to be changed, but that's just a guess. Anyone have any luck
at it?

Thanks again
Sean
