原因只是因為美金貶值?? 真的很奇怪....
美金貶值也不只是對歐元, 從世界各地進口車子到美國的國家廠商這麼多, 為什麼 Audi 就為了這個原因, 而取消一台讓消費者引領期盼的車?
尤其在汽油價錢不斷飆漲的現在, 好多準車主都買 Hybrid 囉, 真是搞不懂 "If you look at the way the economics are going, it was a very hard car to make the numbers work" 這句話的意思.

但是在油價 $2.5 左右的時候, 一台 Lexus RX400h 和 RX330 的差價, 大約開 10 萬 miles 可以省回來
現在油價已經逼近 $4 了, 甚至有人大膽預測一年後會到 $8. 假設漲到 $5 的時候好了, 上面說的那個差價, 僅僅需要一半的里程數, 5 萬 miles 就可以省回來, 大約三年吧
先不要提 Q7 本身價錢比其他美, 日系的 SUV 高多少, 至少同型車 Hybrid 款比汽油款高出來的價錢, Audi, Ford, 和 Toyota 之間應該不會差太多的. 用另一句話說, Q7 本身雖然是不便宜, 但是有預算買這價位 SUV 的人, 若有 Hybrid 款可以選擇, 一定會是個誘因.
我覺得等到油價持續上漲, Hybrid 熱賣的時候, Audi 一定會後悔現在這個決定..
我去年選購七人座 SUV, 沒有選 M-Benz GL 的一個大原因是油耗, GL 車系只有 GL450 一款, 我嫌 cc 數太大, 油耗太差. (這個 size 的車, 入門款作 3.5L 就可以推得動了吧),
我那時候跟 saleman 說, 要是 GL 有第二款的選擇, 不論是柴油或是油電共用, 這一定是我的首選. 他說有可能 07 年底之前全系列 CDI 可以進來加州, 我請他有啥消息打電話給我. 沒想到我入手 Q7 幾個月之後, M-Benz 的 saleman 打了電話給我:
"喂喂, 你上次說 GL 450 你不要, '08 年 GL 車系有新款了",
我: "很抱歉我已經選了 Audi, 不過你還是把資料告訴我好了"
Saleman: "新增的車款是 GL550 "
我: ..... (無言)
我的天啊. 汽油一直漲, M-Benz 不但不著手做更省油的車, 反而弄了台 MPG 更差, Base Price 要 $87,200 的 GL550. 到底有多少人買啊?

one of the marketing director from a major auto company stated that "it is a wrong assumption that people are buying better fuel economy cars. In fact, people are buying less expensive cars and because most of the less expensive cars are tend to be smaller, lighter, with smaller engine. It create an illusion that people are buying more fuel efficient cars but in fact, due to today's economy, people are just buying cheaper cars"
in terms of price, giving today's soft US dollars. Audi might not making any money for Q7. (considering it is made in Europe) the only reason BMW X5 and MB GL/M class can still survive is the fact both are made in the US.
in terms of market segment, i believe Audi will focus more on the upcoming Q5. i believe Q5 will be more fuel efficient than hybrid Q7 AND cheaper, too. seeing from the recent growing in size in the new A4/A5, the upcoming Q5 might be similier size like X5.
when you break down like this. a hybrid Q7 may be selling at $10000 over regular model. if you add some options to the car, the car will be in $60 or even $70K category. with that kind of money, u can buy a upcoming Q5 (says $45K) PLUS a fairly nice mini van (says $20K) the Q5 will have better handling. Mini van will be more comfortable caring 7 people. Both will have much better fuel efficiency than hybrid Q7. Of course you can argue that Q7 can take 7 people camping or mountain claiming. but i think Audi figure it might not enough to make a profit on.
