Talk about Jailbreak your iPhone and iPad. To me, I really don’t see any point at all since iOS already doing the magic of multi-tasking at the OS level. JB only risk of being hacked by some crazy remote hacker. Since all of the iPhone sold in Taiwan already unlocked at the factory level, JB for unlock really doesn’t exist anyway. However, I still see many user JB their new shinning iOS device because everyone was doing it. Since most of the user coming from the Windows side, JB it so they can install illegally copies of software which they don’t really own, or making modification to the OS to make it operates more like a Windows phone, this just defeat the purpose of owning an iPhone/iPad or iOS device.
With iPhone, Mr. Steve Jobs made sure every software works as designed, you turn it own, do your things and move on. You really don’t need to spend time to fondle with it, try to get it working by trying everything setting, the easyness and works perfect everytime has been designed in. Unlike Android phone or WinMo phone, you have to play with every setting and maybe it will work, maybe not, you don’t need to spend time to learn and try to find solution on matter that should be working at first place. This is the beauty of iOS.
Installing software that you don’t own is a crime. Since you already paid for an expensive device, it make no sense to steal a $0.99 software. Or is it?
The proper way to enjoy your iOS device is as following:
1. Own a PC or Mac. Install iTune, Use iTune to manage all your media contents and applications.
2. Use your PC or Mac to manage all your contact or calendar.
3. Sync. your iPhone with your computer. iOS device should be used in a way to bring needed contents with you when you leave your computer. When you return back to your computer, sync. it again to backup everything onto your computer. At this point, no matter how many iOS devices that you own, your data is always backed up and synced.
4. I personally use Gmail. The best thing about Gmail is that you can sync. your calendars, contacts and mail over MS-Exchange method for free and wirelessly. Which means, your have little reason to connect your iPhone to your computer unless you wish to bring more media content with you. For example, some movie or songs that you wish to bring for a trip or sync. the picture that you took while you were away back to your computer. Again, iOS device is only a mobile device to being data with you, it should not be used as your only device to store all your data on it and not sync. back to your computer. In the event that you lost your phone, your only lost will be your phone, not your entire data. Get it?
5. Here is how to sync. your gmail email, calendar and contacts between your computer and iOS device. Now, open the setting on your iOS device. Under “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”, create a Microsoft Exchange account, use your gmail ID and password to add new account to your iOS device. Leave “Domain” section empty and use “m.google.com” at the 2nd page as “Server” information. That’s it. Now, you have an account on your iOS device which you can sync. email, contacts and calendars wirelessly to your computer and all your iOS device. Since this was done via. exchange protocal, all data are pushed to your phone in real-time. Anything added/change on your phone will be directly added to your computer and vise versa.
So, now, come down to how to use your Gmail account for email, calendar and contacts on your computer. If you use web base gmail user, you are done. If you use outlook, You can export all your contact from your computer and upload it to Gmail contact or setup sync. with exchange (Only if you have such option on your computer). Either way, your contacts should show up on your iOS devices in no time. From this point on, it’s always there and synced both way.

Since I am not a PC user, I am not sure what option do you have on photo sync. But, on Mac, you can always use iPhoto to backup all your new photo taking while you were away from your computer. Whatever you decided to take with you, the selection is in iTune and done through iTune sync.
Your purchased software either done through iTune or on the iPhone will always backup on your computer. No need to worry about where they are. You can always download them again for free in case that you change or reinstall your computer.
So, JB or not. You know, your illegally installed software will not get sync. back to your computer, they also don’t get update either. Software installed on all your iOS device are controlled by your Apple store ID (This also known as your Apple ID). You should have just one ID and it should be yours. Not anyone else’s.
iOS4.2 release is just around the corner, this new OS will make iPad multi-task and added air print to all iOS device. You will not be able to upgrade to it if you have JB your device.
Apple made a great efforts on creating a new method of multi-task for mobile device. This extend the battery life greatly. My iOS device usually last a whole day in heavy usage with push on.
So many people asking for help after their JB device bricked prompted me to write this things. Hope one less bricked iDevice and one more happy iDevice user.

Please do not assume ppl who jailbreak the phone were just for illegal apps, actually you might pay even more after you jailbreak it. At least I am the one here.
The reason to jailbreak my phone was because I could only get a locked one and there is no way to use it while I am traveling. Though I thought about not jailbreak it and use my backup cell if needed, so what made me jailbreak my phone then?
Reason is simple: after I got familiar with the phone I just wanted to do more with it, at least to change to other themes - one simple thing but couldnt even accomplished without jailbreak it. That's how I started.
After that, you will realize even though iPhone IS a good product which put a lot of thoughts to make it user friendly, but is it REALLY no room to improve? Why didn't it come with a better dialer? Why doesnt truly free up the memory after you kill apps from switcher? Why can't you facetime over 3G? Why you have to dig into layers just to turn some options on and off? I can keep going to make more points why iPhone can be even more friendly and efficient after jailbreak and proper way of use...
Sure it put the phone in risk but it can be easily avoid. Change your root pw, do not download pirate software, and know how to backup regularly and restore if needed.
For people who jailbreak it just for free pirate apps and got screwed... i feel sorry for them but that's what they deserved.
But the "I really dont see any point at all since iOS already doing the magic...", oh well... if you are happy about your iDevices, congrats. But sometimes people just want to make it even better, and you will only realize it once you jailbreak it.
I haven't JB my iPhone4 yet, but I will soon. iOS is being left behind in the OS race I'm afraid, and after owning a HTC Aria, I do crave for some of the Android features.
The Apple SDK is far too restrictive, and as a result we're stuck with a really basic dialer app that can't be replaced, an UI that hasn't really made much progress in 4 years, and shitty Chinese input that you can't replace. I can deal with not having much quality apps, but basic UI, poor phone app, and bad language input??? Someone find me a way out!!!

Software purchased from Cydia has no promise of working. Just beta (or even Alpha) testing something from someone who cooked up in his basement and wanted to made a quick buck. Let along there was no QA testing, no backup or restore solution. The risk out weight the gained advantage. Isn't it?
UI change, it's one of those WinMO thing from the past. I really like the way how Apple layout their phone UI, not sure what people can gain by changing it. To what? Anything feature missing?
Face time over 3G. Please let us know how many time that you actually used it. Was the quality really good enough? I still remember about the hack which allows Skype over 3G on my iPhone 3G days. Truth was, the quality suck and I only used it once and dumped it forever.
Memory clean up. Unless you are a programmer and a good one on iOS, your comments on clean up memory rarely hold truth. If showing a memory available number on the title bar means anything to you, so be it. I see vary little people knows about it and actually care about it. In the real world, especially who I was targeting, they really don't have your skill to know when and how to clean up the memory. Personally, I think the OS should do the clean up, not the user themselves.
Would I JB my iPhone again. No. Since there are no real unlock solution at this time. No point of risking it since terminal AP from Cydia was not updated since iOS 2.0. It no longer working so I guess PW "Alpine" will have to stay for now. True?
When the OS done it's job, user enjoy pleasant experience. Get thing done, move on. Not tweaking it here and there just like what WinMo required.
Don't want to offend you in anyway, just friendly discussion. Some how, people from different part of the tech world (PC vs. Mac), there are no clear answer.

Chinese being around for over 5000 years. The complexity of the language input to any computer are in sane. That's why there are so many way of inputing Chinese to computers.
Let along you can not type what you think. You have to break it down and assemble it with the key stroke.
Maybe JB is a good solution to use the method that you are accustomed to when Apple failed to provide you with a solution.
OS race, I think Apple is still ahead of the game. I know Android is closing in fast, I personally used an EVO 4G with 2.2 for a month, I came back to iPhone because I wanted to get things done, I don't want to try and find solution to get things done, Maybe it's just me. After all, I am too Applelized. I can't handles all the try this and try that kind of solution. Maybe it's just me. I admitted.

Anyway, you can stand on your points for sure and I will stand on mine.
Just let the user decides and if something goes wrong you can always restore back to the factory condition.
After all I am the one who needs it to travel around.
