Asus keeps the power flowing with the ZenFone 4 Max, which turned in a 15-hour-plus result on our battery test to finish as runner up to its fellow Asus smartphone. But the ZenFone 4 Max has company, as the durable Cat S41 recorded an identical time of 15:19 to split runner-up honors.
Motorola makes a very strong showing on this list, too. The affordable Moto E4 Plus lasted 14 hours, 48 minutes on our battery test. While that's nearly two hours short of the ZenFone 3 Zoom's result, it's still impressive for a phone you can buy for less than $200. If you're willing to pay a little more, the 13:46 result turned in by the Moto Z Play is nothing to sneeze at, if you can still track down that 2016 smartphone.
Our list of the top 25 longest-lasting phones include devices that held out 11 hours or more when we test their battery by having them surf continuously over LTE until they run out of juice. The latest entry is the OnePlus 5T, which joins the ranks of flagship devices from Apple (the iPhone 8 Plus), Samsung (Galaxy Note 8) and Google (both Pixel phones). We'll soon get another long-lasting option once Huawei releases its Mate 10 Pro phablet in the U.S. That 6-inch device held out for 14:33 on a single charge when we had a chance to test it.
When testing phones, we set each phone's display to 150 nits to normalize for brightness and make sure each handset is receiving at least three bars of service. Just to put this performance in context, the average smartphone lasts 9:40 on our test before running out of power.
