Sorry to write this in English but I like to share some of my experience testing Tucson and Santa Fe. I went to the showroom last night at Zhongli, Taoyuan.
I had many cars before, from BMW to Volvo to CRV to ....
I am currently driving a diesel V60 Volvo D4
I do not have any particular brand loyalty. I am not against Korean car. I drove Elantra in USA on rental car, it was impressive, much better handling and styling than Altis/Corolla.
TUCSON
- Looks very nice and beautiful - tried the Turbo version (NTD 959k) The wheel is a bit small.
- Handling and suspension is superb! Very stable and subtle on uneven road surface. I think it handles some rough surface better than my V60!
- Engine is good but the DSG is not as smooth as VW DSG but I hope its reliability is better. There is some hesitation as you step on the gas and accelerate. I checked the engine was fully warm up. A bit strange
- Interior: To me this is the biggest disappointment. The front electric seat is too tall. I cannot adjust it low enough for me. I am 1.78m tall and I am very overweight. The dashboard and the whole interior looks out-dated. Nothing makes you feel fancy at all. The full size moonroof is nice but that is about all. The back seat is very small. Definitely not comparable to CRV 5 or RAV4, about marginal to CX5 Back seats have good cushion but seating space, especially the pitch, is disappointing.
SANTA FE (Top end 1.32M NTD Diesel)
- This car is beautiful to looks at, especially the 19inch wheel!
- Diesel is very quiet! Surprised - so quiet and refined, even quieter than my V60 - maybe it is because Hyundai uses double wall glass for window.
- Acceleration is OK this car is heavy at 1.8 tons. Suspension with 19inch wheel is not good as compared with Tucson. AGAIN, THE REAR SPACE OF THIS CAR IS TOOOOOOO SMALL. Seating position is too tall - yes I adjusted to its lowest position already. The dashboard is nothing you can write home about. Worst of all, as a bad first impression, both Tucson and Santa Fe steering wheel is very thin, not the diameter but the feel to it, more for ladies driver and definitely not match its MACHO looking exterior.
I have to say I am disappointed but I give credit to Hyundai improvement, especially how well the Tucson has been.

Are you Chinese or ABC?
I wonder you're speaking English to sales while testing drive!
Hardly making determination gor me to buy Korean car, but it's quite amazing at Tucson!
I think everyone should compete. It is quite sad just how well the Tucson behaves on road, it is simply amazing! The shortfall is how both Tucson and Santa Fe (even at five passengers level)were designed so poorly interior wise. It simply destroys the appeal of both cars to me.
I hope Hyundai can improve in their next version.
