Thank you for your message and for your interest in Hennessy cognacs.
After some research, it appears that your bottle has been produced between 1972 and 1975 and contains our V.S.O.P Reserve quality.
The Hennessy V.S.O.P Reserve was a cognac that we produced until the 1980's. You can compare this fine cognac with our Hennessy V.S.O.P. Privilege, which has the same characteristics, although the packaging is different.
As you probably know, cognac only ages in oak casks, not in bottles. This holds true for all spirits, unlike champagne or wine, for example. As a result, any value the bottle in question may have accumulated over the years would come from the rarity of the presentation of your bottle and the number of bottles of it left in the world, rather than from "additional" aging of the cognac.
Please find some information on our present V.S.O.P Privilege quality :
If the cap has not been damaged and if the bottle has been stored in good conditions (standing up in a cool dark place), you can still drink and enjoy your cognac.
However you must be careful upon opening the bottle, as it is possible the cork may have been deteriorated over the years, and could possibly break into small chunks.
I hope that the above proves useful. Very often, this kind of bottles are the family's property across several generations, and they carry a very sentimental value.
If you are seeking information on the current market value of your bottle, we believe only respectable auction houses, specialised in wines & spirits, can provide an appropriate estimate. It may be of interest for collectors.
