Developer @Za_Raczke has discovered information of Pixel 8 codenames: "Shiba" and "Husky". Besides that, he has found code referencing to staggered HDR support.
Staggered HDR allows capturing different exposures at the same time, using the same pixels. This allows the same effect as regular HDR without the increased capture time & chance of the photos being blurry because of the frames misaligning by the movement.
The previous Pixel 7's use the last gen GN1 sensor which doesn't support staggered HDR, which hints the GN2 sensor or other being on the Pixel 8 series that is capable of it.
The 50MP ISOCELL GN2 is a 1/1.12-inch sensor, which is bigger than GN1’s 1/1.31-inch sensor. ISOCELL GN2’s Staggered HDR is a better and more efficient way to capture images with a wide dynamic range. Samsung claims that the new sensor is 24% more power efficient due to its newer method of capturing images. It also features an improved autofocus mechanism called Dual Pixel Pro.
