據彭博社報導， Apple 公司計畫於9月10日舉行發佈會，推出外形更薄的新一代iPad平板電腦，以期在日益擁擠的市場繼續保持領先地位。
知情人士表示， Apple 公司還計畫同時推出新一代iPad mini平板電腦，並將搭載高分屏。
在將智能手機和筆記本的功能融合到一起，推出了大受好評的平板電腦後， Apple 公司面臨 Google 、 Samsung 、 ASUS 等公司日益激烈的挑戰。據市場研究公司IDC測算， Apple 公司的平板電腦市場份額已經從去年同期的60.3%，降至今年第二季度的32.4%。但IDC上週表示，平板電腦出貨量增速放緩是因為市場都在期待該公司的新品。
