SD1 advantages:
1. It comes with HDMI port, so watching on LCD TV is very easy.
2. Image quality is excellent. still image quality is acceptable.
3. Low light indoor is much better than HC1. It is the only camcorder I will recommend to shoot indoors of all the camcorders I bought over the years( many).
4. SD card media is more convenient than tape, no rewind is needed. 8GB is plenty for me and I got two.
5. battery time is good. At least I feel it's ok for family video.
the negatives:
1. There are no softwares for editing(none), except japanese version of software it came with the camcorder that you can use to record or convert? to dvd. No known editing software exist on the market so far and people are complaining no able to play the video on computer with current video players.
2. SDHC is a new standard for secure digital card. You need new reader.
3. no hotshoe, no external light option
4. no extended battery option due to enclosed battery compartment.
This is just my observation, I am taking Panasonic HDC-SD1 withe me on an extended trip next week. I hope I don't regret taking this camera instead of Sony HC-1 or small portable JVC-GMC500 (CF /SD media recording).
