惊奇 G10 ISO100 是 ISO117 ??

Yesterday I discovered DXO Lab’s newwebsite that provides one with tools to compare cameras in terms of ISOSensitivity, SNR 18% (Noise), Dynamic Range, Tonal Range, and ColorSensitivity. One can go to the website by clicking here.

On discovering the website, one of my first looks was at my twocameras to find out stuff I am often curious about, especially ISOSensitivity. It helps me calibrate my light meter and gives me someidea about whether the camera is more sensitive or less sensitive thanthe settings. For example, if I have my camera set to ISO 400, is itreally ISO 400 or something else?

And I found some interesting results for the Canon Powershot G10. Turns out that ISO 100 is really ISO 117, and ISO 400 is really ISO464. As I suspected, the G10 is more sensitive to light than I thought.[叹气]

So, I got interested in seeing what DXO found about the PanasonicLX3, since so many are impressed with lower noise at higher ISOs whenshooting with the camera. To my surprise, the DXO charts show thefollowing for the LX3:
ISO 100 is actually ISO 60
ISO 200 is actually ISO 122
ISO 400 is actually ISO 239[恸哭]

WOW, I thought, no wonder so many folks think the LX3 produces lessnoise than the G10! Obviously, a shot taken at ISO 239 (LX3) will lookbetter than one taken at ISO 464 (G10)! In other words, anycomparisons made by you and I of shots done by these cameras usingnormal ISO settings will be totally useless. Course, the same appliesto any number of other cameras.

I plan on doing some external light meter readings when I need shootwith the G10 to see if my shots are better exposed. Course this meansI must keep a chart with me that gives me the correct settings at eachISO. My hope is that it will improve my exposures, something that hasdriven me mad through the years.
The bottom line is that DXO is providing you and I with aninteresting and informative tool. And anytime we can find a new toolthat aids what we are doing, it is well worth using.
Post Script.

Well the net is buzzing about the DXO results and some experts arestill saying that the LX3 produces less noise that the G10 based ontheir independent evaluations. For the most part the discussions areso technical that one would require a degree in computer science tounderstand them. But, if interested, one should go look at a threadthat discusses these issues in great detail. The thread is at NatureScapes Net and can be found here.

大意是:

G10 和LX3 的ISO 值都不准确,原来我们每次比较的照片都错了。[流泪][流泪]
