Mac Ports
是一個開放的自由軟體計畫。如果用過 BSD 系統的讀者應該知道所謂的 Ports 這套系統。雖然 MacPorts 在 Mac 的地位中不太像 Ports 在 BSD系統中那麼的重要，但是卻可以增加我們使用上的便利性。目前 MacPorts 共有 5493 個套件供大家使用。若要查看 MacPorts 支援那些軟體請參考這裡。
引用自官方的介紹:
The MacPorts Project is an open-source community initiative to design an easy-to-use system for compiling, installing, and upgrading either command-line, X11 or Aqua based open-source software on the Mac OS X operating system. To that end we provide the command-line driven MacPorts software package under a BSD License, and through it easy access to thousands of ports that greatly simplify the task of compiling and installing open-source software on your Mac.
從該簡介可以看出 MacPorts 有分為三種形式的執行環境：Command-line(文字模式), X11, Aqua 模式下進行。當安裝完成後可以直接進入 sudo 然後以 port install 的方式快速編譯及安裝你所想安裝的軟體（稍後解釋）。
安裝 MacPorts 的條件:
* XCode
o Leopard (10.5.X): XCode 3.1 或以上
o Tiger (10.4.X): XCode 2.4.1 或以上
* X11環境
XCode 和 X11 環境皆可從隨機附贈的 CD/DVD 安裝光碟安裝
Leopard 的使用者請下載 http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/downloads/MacPorts-1.7.0/MacPorts-1.7.0-10.5-Leopard.dmg
Tiger 的使用者請下載 http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/downloads/MacPorts-1.7.0/MacPorts-1.7.0-10.4-Tiger.dmg
當完成下載你所需要的檔案後，以一般的軟體方式安裝（打開 DMG, 選擇裡面的 MPKG 安裝檔案後就可以開始繼續安裝）。過程中或許你會覺得沒在動作，但是實際上正在從 MacPorts 下載軟體資料庫所以需要花費一些時間。
安裝完了，然後呢？接下來就是好玩的步驟了。
