苹果的VP Phil Schiller 谈到最新Mactel的 BIOS使用的并非传统型, 而是Intel专门开发的被称做 extensible firmware interface (可扩展固件接口 ) 的BIOS. 而由于当年Windows Xp的开发要早于可扩展固件接口标准的制订 .所以Xp也就无从认出苹果的BIOS ,反之Mactel也不能安装Xp系统了.
值得欣慰的是, 微软即将发布的Vista支持可扩展固件接口. 而苹果高层也表示公司不会对在mactel上安装其他公司的操作系统加以特别的限制.
