Very old used M35!!!

In addition to the bigger tires, I think two more things I have to do to let that G35S on the highways be as fun as my current GSF...

Those are an engine oil cooler and an AT cooler... Why??? That's because G35S has only 310hp... I will definitely need to push G35S a bit more... (Let's keep at 4th gear and 3500-4000rpm constantly on the highways which will overtake any slow cars like a piece of cake!!! )

Now I think the newer 7AT should be much better than that old 5AT...

The same 4th gear... The rpm would be 4500-5000 in 7AT...

If you keep at that gear on the highways, then you should be at least as fast as my GSF at sport+ mode if not faster!!! (Of course, if I override the factory gearing and downshift to 5th or 4th gear in my GSF, my GSF will still be faster)

On highways only the car with the highest hp/weight ratio will win...

You should not use the 5th gear in 7AT as even the 4th gear in 5AT is more powerful than the 5th gear in 7AT...

If you use 5th gear in 7AT, you are just a little more powerful than the 5th gear in 5AT which I constantly used on the highways in the past...

The good news is... If you use the 4th gear in 7AT, you are not only a bit faster than the 4th gear in 5AT... You're also faster than my GSF at the default gear (the 6th gear) with SPORT+ mode...

If you use the lower gear on highways during spirited driving, you are not only accelerate faster...

You also slow down quicker thanks to the engine brakes... (more safe!!!)

That's why my wife complained my GSF was a bit scary at normal mode comparing with her M35X due to the much higher final gear in my GSF (less engine brake)

Believe it or not... Actually during spirited driving in my GSF the normal mode is much more scary than the sport+ mode!!!

Of course, if you just cruise on the highways, you should use the highest gear to save the gas...

On highways the horsepower is more important than the tires...

But, on mountain roads the tires are important than the horsepower...

On racetracks both the horsepower and the tires are equally important!!!

The above discussions are for VQ37VHR... How about 300GT???

These things become more and more interesting after I have done some researches on them...

Same 4th gear on 7AT for 300GT... (3.0tt)

Guess what... The gear ratios on 7AT for 300GT are a bit longer than those on 7AT for G37 or Q50 3.7 (non-hybrid)... The differences are 4500-5000 rpm on 3.7 vs 3800-4300 rpm on 300GT...

I also compared the stock dynos and the gear ratios for all those cars...

Guess what... 300GT at 3800-4300 rpm is about as powerful as 3.7 at 4500-5000 rpm thanks to the higher torque from 3.0tt!!! (240 lb-ft vs 290 lb-ft on wheel)

So, I'm sure the 4th gear on 300GT is faster than the 6th gear on my GSF at SPORT+ mode even at only 3800rpm thanks to new turbo design!!!

That's only for 300GT... (it's already quite impressive!!!)

How about RS400??? Actually the 4th gear on RS400 is a little shorter than the 4th gear on 300GT... (4100rpm vs 3800rpm) On top on that, RS400 also has a bit higher torque than 300GT (350lb-ft vs 290lb-ft on wheel)...

So, all in all the 4th gear on RS400 is about as powerful as the 4th gear on GSF!!! (4100rpm vs 4000 rpm)

Of course, the above speculations are based on the assumption which is Nissan's 7AT is as efficient as Toyota's 8AT and both have aggressive lockups performing like manual transmissions...

You may ask if RS400 is about as fast as my GSF... Why is my GSF a bit faster than RS400 for 100-200km/h???

Yes. RS400 is about as fast as my GSF at 3500-5500rpm which we usually do for spirited driving...

However, my GSF is a bit better at the higher rpm(5500 and above rpm) and a higher redline...(now the new turbo design could become a drawback and bite you!!!) So, if you are in RACE mode, you will need those high end performances...

For me, those high end performances are not very important... (Actually I believe at 2000-3500rpm RS400 should be faster. So, during highway cruise the 6th and above gears on RS400 should be faster...)

So, I think the real advantages for my GSF's NA V8 would be its sweet engine sound and the NA reliability...

Now I really think I should buy that Nissan 3.0tt engine for my wife's next car which would be easier for an unskillful driver like my wife... (I explained about gearing to my wife once but she was totally uninterested and said it's too troublesome!!!)

The engine sounds from Nissan 3.0tt and my GSF's V8 are very different... (But, it's not bad to be quieter...)
