請問學生簽證到底跟申請觀光簽證有什麼不一樣

想請問一下如果我有了Ｉ-20
上面有所謂的shool code 和 SEVIS ID
但是我被ＡＩＴ上面一大堆的解釋搞得有點糊塗了
他們說要去SEVIS輸入學生資料請順便繳費
這邊的繳費是否跟之後的簽證是否是分開不同的兩項payment

另外我填完SEVIS個人資料後
他跑出繳費方式我選擇crefit card後怎麼就沒了？？？
阿要去哪裡繳？繳給誰？哪個帳號？怎麼都沒講
是我有填錯嗎？

另外請問一下
這裡是學生簽證跟普通觀光簽證的唯一不同處是嗎？
還是哪裡還有什麼是我該注意的呢！
請有申請過的大大幫幫忙了！！

basically student visa let you enter the States during "school days" normally that's Sept. ~ Dec/ Jan ~ May depending on where you go to school. if you plan to return to the states early during summer vacation, the custom agent will question and try to deny you from entering because it's summer vacation, there is no school, unless you can provide summer school registration. F-1 also grants you multiple years of visa, that also depends on the date of you completing your education.

visitor's visa gives you a limited and shorter time to stay in the u.s.

學生簽証跟觀光簽證幾乎沒有相同之處. 前者你必須去學校報到. 簽證有效期是 open, 直到 dismiss, 也就是到喪失學生身分為止. 只要有 I-20, 你可以一直留下來. 觀光簽證可長可短. 實際可停留的時限完全看海關人員在進入美國的時候才決定. 短的只有兩週, 最長不超過半年. 通常也只有一個月.

進入美國之後兩者的待遇也大不同. 持學生簽證可以申請社會安全號碼, 可以申請駕照. 而所有持短期簽證的都無法申請社會安全號碼, 也無法申請駕照或在銀行開戶. 基本上, 移民局是要杜絕後者長期溜美的可能性.

actually it's near impossible to apply for a social security # as an international student now because of tighter security after 911. student visa is not supposed to work, don't need to file tax.

多謝大大這麼細心的介紹SEVIS
我就一直想說為什麼又多要申請這個東西
事實上
因為我申請的學校有summer的quater學程
所以我纔會再這個時間點就申請了

另外你們提到Social Security
突然讓我想起一個問題
之前有學長跟我說要有可能要辦什麼國外的醫療保險
避免到時候有可能生個小感冒就要花很多錢～
但是我又聽人說其實每間學校都有對自己的學生有特別的discount
不知道個位大大對這方面有什麼建議呢？

you should enroll in the school med-care system.
even though you don't need social security to apply for med-care, but as a foreigner you will need a med-care sales agent to buy it for you.

學校都有提供學生保險. 當然要自行購買, 而且不便宜. 美國保險自付額很高. 意即不豉勵小病看醫生.
台灣習慣不同, 動不動就看醫生打針吃藥的.

保險的功用其實是 cover 難以付擔的大病或意外. 以前在當留學生時因為保險太貴, 不敢買. 還好那時候年輕, 不生病. 現在學生保險應該是強制性的了.

1. everyone has to have med-care. when i was in school 2003, i paid about $200 for the one semester.
2. i pay $150 per month.. do the math..

暈~每個月150US的話真的不少耶...
加上舊金山的房租不便宜的說...
這是針對每個學校不一樣而做變動嗎?
還是差不多就是這樣了~

題外話
另外請教一下在美國的網路和手機一般是怎麼算的呢?
聽說是按照累積輸出量的大小算的
而不是像台灣一樣一個價錢吃到飽喔
