回到原題：在樓主提供的那篇文章的四個半小時之後，SF Weekly 又貼出了一則後續報導，其中引用了舊金山警察局發言人 Lt. Troy Dangerfield 的發言。SF Weekly 還很盡責地把新文章的連結放在舊文章的最上面，並且用粗體字 Update (3:25 p.m.): Police now say they did assist Apple security with the home search of a Bernal Heights man. Read the full story here. 加以強調，如果你連這也沒看到，那我真的不知道該說什麼。
根據 Dangerfield 的說法，當天有「三或四名」舊金山警察局的便衣警官，陪同兩名蘋果的私家偵探一同搜查二十二歲的 Sergio Calderón 的住宅，但便衣警官並未進入房內，而是在表明身份後站在門外，任由蘋果的私家偵探在 Calderón 的住宅翻箱倒櫃。其中一人還語帶威脅地說「這房子裡的每個人都是美國公民嗎？」似乎是看出了 Calderón 是移民家庭（但是是合法的，且已取得美國公民身份）。
由於至少有一名警官在一開始就表明身份，Calderón 並未懷疑六人中居然有兩人（而且還是實際進行搜索的那兩人）並非真正的警察，故同意兩人進屋搜索，還查看他的電腦。在完全沒有搜索到 iPhone 5 之後，一名「警察」還對 Calderón 說，只要他乖乖把 iPhone 5 原型機交出來，就會給他三百元美金且保證不會起訴他，但 Calderón 自始至終都堅持從未持有過那台「遺失」的 iPhone 5 原型機。
一名「警察」給了 Calderón 一個聯絡電話號碼；SF Weekly 追查這支電話，找到了 Anthony Colon，一名曾在聖荷西警察局任職長達26年的退休警察，今年剛轉任蘋果的「資深調查員」。媒體找上門時，Colon 拒絕對此事作出評論。
整個搜索過程都是在沒有搜索票的情況下進行的，而且在事件剛被媒體爆出來時，舊金山警察局的另一名發言人 Albie Esparza 還說不知道有這回事（不論真假）。

According to Dangerfield, the officers "did not go inside the house," but stood outside while the Apple employees scoured Calderón's home, car, and computer files for any trace of the lost iPhone 5. The phone was not found, and Calderón denies that he ever possessed it.
