I do not agree that people don't really know what they want.
Most people don't care what CPU/RAM their cellphone use.
In fact, they know exactly want they want: I don't want to pay much time to learn how to use it.
Most iPhone competitors do not realize that though they are powerful in many ways,
they are still too complex to most users. Those *exciting* functions sometimes use too much power so users need to prepare another battery. Those geeks or IT-lovers may not care about the need for an extra battery but I doubt common users will accept that.
That's why iPhone is still popular even its hardware is not as good as others.
