17世紀意大利人格雷戈裏奧·阿雷格裏 (Gregorio Allegeri 1582-1652) 最著名的作品, 爲《舊約》詩篇第51首所譜的一首五聲部合唱曲
當年的羅馬教廷深知這首作品的力量，下令僅有西斯丁禮拜堂的唱詩班能夠演唱，且樂譜不准外流，即使詩班團員練習時也不能觀看總譜，只能看他自己分部的譜，而且演出時全場燈光都要熄滅，只為嚴防樂譜被偷抄出去。
一百年後，才14歲的小莫扎特在西斯丁禮拜堂中，一邊聆聽就當場把六聲部無伴奏合唱的譜給背了下來，教皇深受莫扎特的才華所感動，不但沒有處罰他，還頒發金馬刺勳章給他，也因此這一部傳世不朽的合唱曲才流傳開來.
