2013/12 Volvo V60 New Tire Change: 235/50/R17!

Just want to share this with fellow lovers of V60/S60

I just change my set of 4 new tires from 235/45/R17 to 235/50/R17
I had changed this before using Michelin Premacy 3ST but this time, I could not afford that high price (>7400NTD Per tire) and change to another brand. (You may PM me if you want to know more)

1. Bigger 235/50 is about 1 inch taller on car height. It makes entry/exit of V60 easier and looks a lot nicer! I would say, it appears to look between a regular V60 and a V60CC
2. Comfort - this is so much better - V60 is a heavy car especially with Diesel engine and that extra 50 vs 45 on tire wall provide much needed cushion. I think it is better looking, cushion better and more suited for Taiwan road.
3. Speed indicator - now this is a bit strange. When I use the original 235/45, there is a difference of 5 km/h between car speedometer vs GPS reading, car speedometer is showing a faster number. With this new 235/50 tire, the discrepancies is now down to 1km/h! I can never explain this and neither can Volvo Taoyuan! They were shocked. It happened before to my first set of 235/50 tire and this time, history repeats itself!
4. The new tires from this brand (PRC - oh yes, mightly Chinese - are made in Vietnam) shows a promising start. Maybe too early to tell but my tire shop strongly recommend. The price is only half of the Michelin and many BMW users are changing and so far, thread life and traction has been quite good. They call it "Chinese Michelin" meaning the tire is design more like Michelin kind of feel. IT IS VERY QUIET! What I had before is Dunlop - that is really like a rock! Even when it is new, it is not quiet.

For those V60 lovers who like to see how it look, I am more than happy to share with you but I am not good at posting photo on this website. You may PM me and let's Line so that I can take some photo to share with you. Many thanks for reading.

Yes! the 235/50/R17 tire must be more comfortable than 235/45/R17
But it may also lost of some "precision" while you changing line on road, right?

I chose the Michelin PSS, more expensive then P3ST,
but I loved the " feeding of safety confirm" while I drove fast

Well, I don't think precision is lost that much....
The whole car, even driving inside, feels a lot higher with perceivable vision improvement on driving. I did notice that acceleration is a bit weaker - may be because of inherent Formosa Diesel vs China Petrol Diesel. Braking is better - not surprising, more friction.

BTW, you may want to consider a modification kit that is available to address the negative toe-in angle of V60. Our V60 has our rear tires, bending more outside and not too vertically aligned. I am going to install this new kit which will address toe-in clamp angle (Whatever that means) basically addressing this issue to allow more adjustment. All my tires died prematurely because of inner uneven abrasion, mostly caused by this angle slanting. I am not a poor man but I hate my tires average 25-28k km before wear out. My recent Dunlop barely made it in 15k before noise coming out of uneven wearing makes me nut!
