I took my V60 on 2013/10 12/10.
When the car arrived, I spent almost half day examine the car. What to look for? Well, function wise, Volvo Taiwan already finish the inspection, there is not much you need to do but you definitely need to check fitting, body panel, alighment etc. You should check if the front bumper and the body panel are aligned properly, the door panel should fit seamlessly with the rest of the body work - both doors, both side, check rear bumper, check color shade difference. Check the front engine cover, the seam line should be equal and flush properly, no difference in gaps etc. Also the tail gate door if you are buying a V60, XC60 etc.
In summary, body panel alignments are the most important issues to look for. Other obvious are leather seat surface and others small one. My advice, be pushy, be demanding, Volvo dealers like to reduce their work load, you should insist. You will be surprised how much room panels can be adjusted - it is also good to ensure lesser chance of future rattle noise etc.
Come to think about it, proper body alignment is the responsibility of original factory but they are too lazy and always leave that to dealers and customer to demand. Among all the cars I had owned and seen (not bought), I have to say Lexus and VW/Audi has the best panel fit. Mazda 6, originally from Japan is horrible and disappointing, I had an obvious misalignment on the rear door to body side but it has been fixed.
Always remember, once you own that car, the responsibility becomes yours, if not, you have the upper hand to demand anything that is reasonable. BE DEMANDING. BE FIRM!
