Aged 28, lived in tiny single apartment in Manhattan, NY; struggling with high tax and rental fee in reflecting the limited paycheck, so as to reflect my hair loss. I can still remember there was a Hispanic barber shop in 9th Ave ( the election is based on the lowest price I can find in Chelsea, USD$10/cut, no hair wash). After passed 30, in facing less and less hair in front, all I can do is to cut hair short and tried to use hair style to cover front area. Under the impact from it, I show less and less interest in photo taken. And even when I present to public, I did not feel comfortable at all as I skip keep this in my mind~
When I turned to 40, the situation is getting worse, I did a few survey and studies and fine out hair tattoo might be the solution. It was a solution to tattoo hair-liked spot to mimic real hair. There is almost no impact after the surgery and you can immediately feel the difference from that. I felt much confident after implement it.
However, there is duration limit for the tattoo. The spot went fade after 2 years. You can gradually feel the difference between tattoo and real hair. Though the increasing gap from outlook, it is time to find out permanent solution from it.
Of course it takes efforts to search for best approaching; Hair transplant is the only way to get permanent solution~ However, there are so many available solutions in the markets like FUE, FUT, FUS…, how can I select from it? What is the best solution for me? There are more concrete conclusion from multiple researches and case studies. Of causes, there is still one latest mile before making the final decision and it began with my consulting trips with doctors’ appointment.
My final choice goes to Gaudit Hair Transplant Clinic with Dr. Lin and Dr. Zou. With professional case sharing, they showed additional care and detail-oriented responses during my consulting arrangement. By discussing the recovery and final result after the surgery, especially the budget need to considered. I was soon make the final decision. By taking a break just before Year end, schedule a Friday time as it is more flexible time for recovery period arrangement. The life-impacted activity was being settling down.
A warmly reminding just before surgery is always a plus. Not only for the doctor’s appointment (I only know a drink before surgery is ok when I conduct already. The advice is not to drink as it is afraid that you get drunk and would not be able to discuss with doctor for follow up hair design). And the reminding can also calm you down before the surgery conducted.

It came to the surgery day (well, never thought I will have this day). I was actually reserved a health check just before the surgery. Checking in around 11am, the click actually conducted health eduction, mental construction, and another health eduction, I was lie down in the legend operation table. As FUS is my final choice after the survey. It was a way to transplant the hair follicle from back to front and there will be a long strip wound in the back head ( it takes some time to reach final choice as FUS as it takes longer recovery time, detail statement will be provide later on). To avoid anxious during the surgery, Dr. Zou had casual conversation with me with detail step-by-step description. We even have chat when I go abroad for study and work, the really calm me down as I thought fried back to past already~
It is actually aware during the whole process and I believe the most suffering part is Scalp anesthesia ( the first few needles are painful, but you almost feel like a mosquito bite after it as anesthesia take efforts already). There will be additional expanding agent implement in the cutting area as surgery required, which made me feel embarrassed. It was lucky it takes only 30 mins to completed the surgery, and you will be introduced to watch the separation of your hair follicle from Electron microscope, which was amazing as there are about 2,500 hairs contained.
As it takes time for hair separation ( around 1 hour, based on hair quantities), I was introduced to a rest area. There is recliner and lunch box prepared ( very sweet arrangement from clinic as it is not allowed to go outside; this is to prevent further inflection from any further contact. However, you can not expect too much from lunch box as it just a nearby buffet with so so taste. And the only drink is it water itself and this is for your medicine take only). I have a good rest and do not feel anything uncomfortable, and even doing the 2021 planning during the break.
And it came to an impressive news: there will be 4 needles injected around eyebrows. The purpose is to block the pain from front-head nerve. It will be less painful for the following 30 -40 needle injected in front head. However, both sides from hair will still feel pain during the injection as the limited coverage from anesthesia. What? I thought it was finished already. And even there will be the area do not cover even you have anesthesia implement already. Or even worse is it will feel more pain compared to the surgery in the morning. Dr. Lin asked if I am the hero to make it, which I admit I am not as I think hero do not even exist in the world. As I was in the middle of the whole process already, I was re-entering the surgical room with disappointed.
It was so painful when doing the fist 4 injections, especially the last one as I almost cry from it. And it came with Scalp anesthesia ( as doctor told, yes, another painful feeling comes). Of course there was additional expanding agent implement in the front head; it feel like you actually wear a heavy helmet with you. By the way, the purpose of implementing expanding agent is to expand the hair area to make easy implement in the surgery area. The principle is similar to blow a balloon to enlarge the defined area.
Here comes the most expected part: hair follicle transplant. I can feel how detail Dr. Lin did the transplant one-by-one even when I can not see it. The separation between each hair follicle, from rough to thin. How to separate into different areas, what will be right angle and depth from each hair? How many should hairs spare in different areas? This really rely on the the profession from Dr. Lin. And I know I can trust Dr. Lin as we have full communication before the implement.
It takes around 3 hours for the surgery in the afternoon; as I have Scalp anesthesia implement and feel no pain after that, I feel I fall a sleep (it was confirmed by Dr. And I must sneeze already). Just pass 5PM, I was asked to turn the seat. The survey was completed and I can go home already if I do not feel anything uncomfortable~
