一九四八年推出的2CV，靈巧的造型，搭配可拆式坐位及頂蓬是體貼設計，不僅立即擄獲法國愛車族的青睞，次年在巴黎車展上亮相後，更在世界各地造成很大的轟動，成為雪鐵龍車系外銷的先鋒。
這款被車迷暱稱為「小精靈」的2CV，配置六百零二西西氣冷式兩缸引擎，優異的經濟性及實用性，成為戰後法國馬車的替代品，是將法蘭西「合理主義」的奧妙，表現到極致代表性車種。
一九五○年起，雪鐵龍在巴黎的Levallois廠，每天生產一千輛2CV，仍然供不應求，最成功是一九七四年，一共產銷了卅六萬八千二百卅二輛。七○年代末期，雪鐵龍賦予2CV更活潑的色彩，並在前輪採用碟式煞車，又將車體陸續作了些細部修改，造成年輕第二代的欣喜熱潮。
經過四十二個寒暑的洗練，2CV共售出七百餘萬輛，而於一九八八年二月，光榮的退出生產線，移往葡萄牙Mangualde的雪鐵龍廠繼續生產，但當年的產量低於一萬九千輛，最後的2CV生產線，終於一九九○年七月劃下休止符，但是她在車迷心中的光鮮身影，卻像「永恆」的巴黎一樣，隨時再生與浮現。
