Preview: Both Santa Cruz and Capitola have long been immensely popular beach resort towns, enjoyed by outside visitors, local residents and students from nearby U. C. Santa Cruz. This ride follows a leisurely and picturesque route along the shoreline from Natural Bridges State Park, just west of Santa Cruz, to Capitola. It then returns following the same route. To get the complete experience, expect to spend the better part of a day exploring the many diversions along the way. The ride is good any time of year, but is especially nice on weekdays and during the off- season, when traffic is minimal. Be advised to bring along a jacket or wind- breaker, as the coast can often be quite cool, even when inland temperatures are high. The roads are quite flat, but there is often substantial car traffic. It is important to be very alert and to stay clear of danger. Bike lanes in many places are provided for extra safety.
