硬體支援提升加倍：Vista SP1 已內建8萬支硬體裝置驅動程式，是Windows Vista上市時的兩倍，全球已有超過17000個以上通過認證的裝置，涵蓋600個以上硬體製造夥伴。
軟體應用相容度近乎百分百：目前可在Windows Vista執行的軟體數量是上市時的10倍，且相容度達98%以上!前150大商用軟體與應用程式已全數相容於Vista SP1，包含文書及美工、工具、多媒體、遊戲、防毒軟體與商用套裝軟體等。
檔案複製效能穩定度倍增：Vista SP1硬碟內檔案複製速度最快可增加50%，改善電腦運作時耗電與延長電池壽命，加強電源管理，省電可提高7%~10%。
多磁區加密安全性滴水不漏：大幅增強的Windows BitLocker磁碟加密功能，可加密系統槽以外的本機磁碟機，同時增加智慧卡的安全性，讓使用者更安全地透過電腦收集智慧卡PIN，機密不外洩下資訊安全更有保障。
Vista SP2 除了修正了許多 Windows 的臭蟲、漏洞外，也進行了許多新的微調設定(tweak)，藉以改善 Vista 的效能。此外，Vista SP2 也加入了藍光燒錄的能力(用戶當然得具備藍光燒錄機)，這也是首度在 Windows 系統中看到此項功能。其他新的特色還包括Bluetooth 2.1 支援、以及 Windows Connect Now Wi-Fi 設定功能、Windows Search 4.0、以及允許設定 TCP 最大連接數目等等。
