WinDVD does not let me use more then 2 speakers even though I have 4 or more speakers. Question
In WinDVD 9, one can click on the "Audio" menu and then go to "Playback Device".
One can change the "Device Selection" to properly use your speaker setup. This could be "Headphones", "S/PDIF", "2 Speakers" or more. Sometimes, you may find that you will not see more then X number of speakers, even though you have more than that number. Answer
WinDVD asks Windows for the speaker setup in order to determine what how many speakers to show in "Device Selection".
If the Speaker setup is set to 2 speakers, WinDVD will only show 2 speakers. If the Speaker setup is set to 5.1 sound... WinDVD will show 6 speakers, 4 speakers, and 2 speakers.
In order to ensure that the speaker setup is correct please follow the instructions below:
On Windows XP:
1. Click on the Windows "Start" button and then click on "Run". 2. Type in "mmsys.cpl" and hit "OK" 3. At the bottom of the "Volume" tab, click on the "Advanced" button in the Speakers section. 4. At the bottom of the "Speakers" tab, make sure the correct number of speakers is selected in the "Speaker Setup" drop down and then hit "OK’ 5. Restart WinDVD and change the "Audio" -> "Playback Device" ->"Device Selection".
On Windows Vista:
1. Bring up the Run command, see: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/233aa6eb-2962-4954-a23f-4ba57fb54c1c1033.mspx 2. In the Run Dialog box, type in "mmsys.cpl" and hit "OK" 3. In the "Playback" tab, Right-click your Speakers (the output device you are using) 4. Click on "Configure Speakers’ 5. In "Audio Channels", make sure that the correct number of speakers/channels is selected 6. Hit "Next", and finish the rest of the Speaker Setup Wizard 7. Restart WinDVD and change the "Audio" -> "Playback Device" -> "Device Selection"
If you cannot choose the selected number of speakers in Windows, there may be an issue with the audio driver that may require support from the manufacturer.
