[請教] SAS 中 ”narrow port” “wide port" "雙連接埠" 的關係

請教 ~ 在某些SAS 討論中會提到 ”narrow port”, “wide port” 與 雙連接埠

是否 …. 雙連接埠 = wide port ? 若是只接一個埠 = narrow port ?

那這個wide/narrow port 與SES (inband) - SGPIO (sideband) 的關係?

narrow port 用 SES (inband) 插槽?
wide port 用 SES (inband) + SGPIO (sideband) 兩組插槽?

以上猜測是否對?

wide port(宽端口),可以表示为N-wide link和N-wide port,N取值在1~4之间
這個"N" 與 "1~4" 又是什麼?

narrow ==> single PHY to PHY connection
wide ==> multiple PHY to PHY connection

A SAS port can have up to 4 PHYs, that means you may have x1, x2, or x4 configurations. A wide port can be used to connect directly to devices (eg. x4 wide port on the expander to four devices) or connect to another wide port (eg. x4 wide link from the controller to expander).

SES ==> SCSI Enclosure Service. LED and auxiliary control signals are transferred within SCSI channel (in-band). Both controller and expander/backplane must support SES2 if you want to use this feature.

SGPIO ==> LED and auxiliary control signals are not transferred within SAS channel, they are transferred with additional wires (sideband). Mini-SAS connectors already have pins for these signals so you won't need additional cables. The SGPIO control registers are (usually) accessible through in-band SAS mamagement protocal.

The I^2C based SAF-TE needs additional wires it's sideband as well.

但是放在LSI 2008 8-Port 6Gbps SAS Controller就越來越混亂了

==> 8-Port * 4 PHYs ==> 32個SAS HD/cable 接槽 ??

? narrow port 接法: each port 接 一根cable to 一個SAS HD
? wide port 接法: each port 接 四根cable to 四個SAS HDs

如果做HBA card or Motherboard 廠家用LSI 2008 8-Port, 可以放32個SAS HD/cable 接槽, 也不需expander?
因為 :
(1) A SAS port can have up to 4 PHYs, that means you may have x1, x2, or x4 configurations.
(2) A wide port can be used to connect directly to devices

甚麼樣的環境就搭配甚麼樣的硬體設施,會不會比較快 ?
要的不是你 所謂 快 的定義。

要快
都裝上 SSD 就真的得很快了

分享一下我理解到的

NARROW PORT 由一個PHY 構成的port (一般是接到HDD)
WIDE PORT 由四個OHY 構成的ports (一般是用在 miniSAS connecotr)

LSI2008 是PCIe GEN2 轉SAS 的controller 正確來說只有八個PHYs
簡單的說
wide port 就是可以將4個hdd port (4 PHYs) , 綁成一個3G(SAS 1) or 6G(SAS 2) x4 =12G/24G 的頻寬的通道, 用以支援串接Expander (JBOD)
SES 走的是inband 在訊號線的訊息
SGPIO走的是另外拉的線
