by the time the bios tells you there are smart errors, your hard drive is almost dead.
i have seen a number of hard drive now have problem at about 5000 or 7000 hrs. seaxxxx is one of the worst. It make the sxxtool scan hang aswell. and it showed failed the second time.
you could saved a lot of time if you check the smart error aleast once a week. smaart errors usually increase over a period of time.
