AMD to Demonstrate CPU-GPU Chip Live Next Week
AMD to Spoil IDF with Zacate

Just as Intel Corp. gears up for its annual Intel Developer Forum next week, its arch-rival Advanced Micro Devices plans to spoil the event with the live demonstration of its hybrid processor code-named Zacate just meters away from the convention centers, where the IDF is set to take place.
Next week in San Francisco, California, AMD will unveil the first North America public demonstrations of its accelerated processing unit (APU) codenamed “Zacate,” a new dual-core, 18W TDP processor containing DirectX 11-class graphics capabilities on die. Zacate APU-based platforms bring many of the vivid digital computing experiences into the opening price points of the low-cost and mainstream segments.
According to AMD, the demonstration will include fully accelerated playback of 1080p video, PC video games and other types of usage, including GPU-accelerated software.
AMD's low-power APUs Ontario and Zacate will generally have similar designs and similar set of capabilities. Both low-power APU versions feature two “Bobcat” x86 cores and graphics processing engine derived from code-named ATI Cedar chip that fully support DirectX11, DirectCompute and OpenCL. Both APUs also include a new UVD dedicated hardware acceleration for HD video including 1920x1080 (1080p, full-HD) resolutions.

本月13-15日,Intel將在美國舊金山召開新一屆IDF(Intel技術峰會),其中就有關於下代處理器Sandy Bridge的進一步介紹。與此同時,AMD也不願意閑著讓敵手獨美,將在同一時間、同一城市再次展示代號“Zacate”的Fusion APU融合加速處理器。Zacate APU平臺主要面向主流、低端和超輕薄筆記本,以及入門級臺式機、一體機,號稱“將會把曾經只有高端PC才能享受的逼真數字計算體驗帶往開放價位的主流領域”。
Zacate集成兩個“山貓”架構x86處理器核心、DX11級別圖形核心、UVD視頻解碼引擎、DDR3內存控制器,采用臺積電40nm工藝制造,今年晚些時候正式投產並出貨給OEM廠商,相關產品則會從明年年初開始陸續上市。
這一次,AMD Fusion APU部門高級總裁和工程師將給我們帶來的展示內容主要有:
- 全高清流式在線視頻播放,展示Zacate APU平臺處理大多數多媒體任務的多功能性。
- 高畫質設定的沈浸式在線遊戲,展示Zacate APU平臺的DX11支持能力。
- 互聯網衝浪加速預覽,展示Zacate APU平臺對瀏覽器GPU硬件加速的支持,以及與當前AMD、Intel筆記本平臺的對比。
AMD高管屆時還會通過官方博客進行同步講解,並對CPU、GPU、APU市場的新進展發表評論,首次涵蓋消費級PC市場和軟件開發生態環境。

真正的單核雙緒,不是intel的單核假雙緒!
更令人興奮的是單核包了兩顆核心進去竟然功耗還能降低多…
其實AMD這次的新架構一開始就讓我想到以前的intel的拼裝雙核&拼裝四核,只不過這次AMD的新架構並沒有intel當初面臨的難題,而是靠著累積的多核心技術將新架構的效能整體推進一大步。
這也讓我聯想到了拼裝四核與偽裝四核,兩相對照真的蠻有趣的…
只不過現在是AMD的偽裝四核(其實總共有八核被包進四核但通道還是八共四)打intel的真四核,很令人期待AMD的推土機和山貓架構面市與intel的效能對決!
還不只這場好戲大家期待,包進CPU的顯晶效能對決也是一場萬眾矚目的大戲。
