This week a ruling from the California Labor Commission was made public because popular ride-sourcing company Uber appealed it. A San Francisco-based driver named Barbara Ann Berwick brought a case alleging that she is an employee, not an independent contractor as Uber claims. It emerged that the commission ruled in her favor, saying the company owed her $4,152 in expenses. But this could lead to rulings worth much more.
Uber

Savor this weekend, Singaporeans. This is your last weekend with Uber.
After five years, the U.S.-based ride-hailing app is set to cease all its operations in Singapore on Monday, May 7, completing the buy out made earlier this year by competitor Grab.
In a statement issued by Uber on Saturday, it says “The Uber app will cease to operate in Singapore after 7 May in accordance with directions from the Competition and Consumer Commission (CCCS) of Singapore.”
Uber was originally scheduled to stop its operations on April 15, but the termination was postponed due to a CCCS review of the Grab-Uber deal.
While the CCCS stands firm on Uber’s cessation in Singapore, the commission also admits that not all investigations will be completed by May 7.
