by the way, wildcard system was implemented in 1995, after s.f. giants did not make the playoffs in 1992, when they won 103 games. atlanta braves won 104 that year (they were in the same division). giants were considered the second best team in nl that year, yet they did not make the playoffs because of the system, so it was changed.
two teams from the same division won over 100 games only happened twice, the other times was ny (103) and baltimore (100) in 1980.

Well, my feelings from the article, if the giants had just receive some decent starting pitching help, they would've won... they're line up was already better than the braves...
The difference, Braves got McGriff, Giants got nobody at the trading deadline...

oh yeah, we have better hitters, clark, williams, and bonds (i like it better than jeter, a-rod, and matsui). but the braves had avery, maddux, smoltz, and glavine....pretty much 4 of the best pitchers at the time.
remember what joe torres likes to say? better pitching beats hitting....
