you are supposed to dislike Daisy because she is the epitome of the downfall of the American Dream. She wouldn't have been prepared to fall into a lower class in society, like you say, because she cares too much for the superficial things in life. Gatsby fell in love with 'Daisy, gleaming like silver, safe and proud above the hot struggles of the poor' because she represented everything that Gatsby desired in his life - wealth, and the extravagant lifestyle that came with it.
