Different cultural backgrounds is one big issue, especially when you are still hanging out with the Chinese community.
SOME white people may not take things serious as Chinese do... for them, breaking up, a short relationship is just so common. (more and more youngsters from Asia are catching up, but white people take it really good, broke up yesterday, friends tomorrow)
As for your English... sorry... having the ability to read, understanding does not mean you have good English skills. Many people from SEA have good English background but cannot speak properly.
Yes, you can read English well, why don't through reading, learn the proper way to improve it? (especially grammar)

But then again, I'm from Singapore and 70% of the people here are Chinese and I can still communicate in English. So you should brush up on your English skills too...
