To flourish in crypto is to understand and adapt to constant change. However, our brain often makes a deal with the devil that carves negative thought patterns in our minds. So how do we fight against that feeling, carve new thoughts, and thrive in a changing environment?
Although we may perceive thoughts as atomic in nature, they're actually formed from our experiences & prior thoughts. I like to visualize the start of thought as an endless plain, with boundless opportunities. A young child can let a thought dictate the path, free from bias.
Adults however have boundless experience and hundreds of thousands of similar thoughts in the bank. What has this created across the plain? Deep holes with a pre-defined finish to them. Now instead of letting the thought guide you, you guide the thought. But why is this bad?
Because we create natural barriers to our thoughts the more we think about a topic. The more we think, the deeper the groove gets and the harder it is to escape this thought pattern. This is why it's so hard to break bad memories, as each thought only adds another puzzle.
If not careful, a person's thought patterns (or grooves) can get so deep that it's almost impossible to change. Their thoughts almost entirely end up at the same destination. Unlike the kid's boundless expanse, they have a one-way ticket to failure.
So why am I telling you this & how does this apply to crypto? Well for starters, crypto prays on those that succumb to their thought patterns This is due to its unpredictability and ruthlessness Remember those grooves? As an example, take the feeling you had after a bad trade
That feeling in your stomach of regret, anxiousness, maybe even frustration. But remember, you had an entire thought pattern leading up to those emotions. Now when you're trying to move forward, you're more likely to fall into that groove, having dug it slightly deeper.
This is regardless of whether the circumstances are the same or not. Your mind is not rational and will lead you into the deepest dug groove, like a bowling ball in an ally. The more the thought occurs, the deeper it becomes. A vicious circle.
Now I'm not trying to scare you, there is a solution. Whenever you make a bad decision that is playing on your conscious, sit down. Grab a pen and paper and write down: • What went wrong? • Why did it go wrong? • What can I do to change it for next time?
By being conscious of your thoughts and the potential consequences of them, you can begin to fill in these grooves. Call it self-therapy, but it's worked wonders for me. When you can pull from experience, but not fall into the grooves, you're able to make the best decisions.
Your mind is able to roam free, rationally reviewing the context of each situation in a vacuum. You will no longer be subject to your thought patterns leading you to failure, instead... You dig brand new ones, from positive foundations with light instead of a wall at the end.
