I attended this event last year, you can go to their website to get some ideas about the routes from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

If you can, I would suggest to ride from Seattle to San Diego. The northern part of Pacific Cost Highway (Highway 1) is very beautiful, lots of red wood trees. The southern part is more cliffs and rocky mountain and sands.

One of the persons in the group is going to ride from LA to Seattle, you may meet him in the middle of the road.

Based on your route, no, you won't miss the beautiful Redwood National Park, just north of Eureka before entering into Oregon. You will enjoy fantastic redwood forest there.

Once you arrive Portland, DO NOT forget to ride the Gorge (east of Portland, see the link below). That is another cyclist's must-ride route.

Sorry, I misread your direction. From Seattle down south, you will reach Portland first (do not forget to ride the Gorge, along Columbia River). After that, take either 18 or 26 road to Highway 101 and follow it all the way down to California. Once you pass the boarder and Crescent City, you will enter Redwood National Park and then Eureka. Once pass Garberville, keep west into Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) and you will pass famous Golden Gate Bridge and other scenic areas. Along Highway 1, you will reach Santa Monica and San Diego. Good luck!

租車當然必較便宜，況且你們是結伴同行，可以分攤租車費用。搭飛機應該會比搭火車便宜，但是單車要上飛機，應該要有攜車袋，飛機到達下一個目的後，還是要開始騎車，所帶的攜車帶難道要一路跟著你們？還是把他丟掉？前者很不方便！後者會覺得可惜！個人認為只有從台灣往返美國所使用的攜車帶，應該暫時寄放在美國友人處(或許有熱心的車友可暫時讓你們借放)，在美國本土一路騎車到底，完成這個壯舉，不就是你們原始的初衷與夢想嗎？！
