Here is my CONSTRUCTIVE take on the situation early this morning.. for those wondering what happened and how...
First off @ 12:48 AM PST one of two things happened, either a Zynga employee decided to remove the Holiday loot event feature WITHOUT taking the server offline (again).. this corrupted the database affecting a limited number of users.. OR the database is still suffering from corruption issues dating back to November 27th/2009 and crashed. Those corrupted accounts were rolled back
approximately 15 minutes later, all servers (facebook and Myspace )were taken offline while somebody figured out what went wrong.. this is when the maintenance screen was posted.
I still Can't figure out why Zynga even included option 3 as an excuse as EVERYONE was unable to play, the servers were offline.. so nothing or nobody should have been affected by the servers being taken offline..

There have been a number of problems that have the same symptoms but rose from different situations.
1. Users losing items, stats, cash, levels from technical anomalies
2. Users losing items, stats, cash, levels because of the rollback implemented
3. Users losing items, stats, cash, levels because of a brief outage last night from 12:48 am to 1:55 am PST.
We can review situation number 1. We just need to know what exactly you lost and when and (possibly) how you think this happened.
For situation number 2, as you know we recently encountered a database issue that might have impacted your account. Unfortunately, we had to roll back your account to an earlier date. To make up for this inconvenience we added to your account additional Godfather Points, Skill Points and a Special Loot drop.
We are not able to restore any loot or points beyond what has already been added to your account.
If you purchased any Favor Points in the past few weeks that no longer appear in your account, please reply with the date and the amount purchased and we will review your purchase.
For situation number 3, the outage affected Mafia Wars from 12:48am to 1:55 am PST. This means that any recent play during that period of time may have been lost. We are not able to restore any loot or points that were lost during this time frame. Not unless you purchased points during this juncture. Let us know and we'll take a closer look. We will need the amount you purchased as a reference.
