Reason:
1. Most real high end buyer are 50+ years old. those people are not as "tech crazy" as younger people.
2. PS3 only available for about a year.
3. Most people still don't have 1080P TV. REAL HDTV with HDMI 1.3 only available for few months. i believe 95% of people still don't have true 1080P TV.
4. If you watch it on regular TV, VCD, DVD, Blue-Ray really not that much difference.
5. Many "high-end audio" user don't care about video, many people only listen to 2 channel audio.
6. If you don't use HDMI out on PS3, the audio out is really not that good on PS3.
video and audio are 2 difference things. there is still NO really good pre-amp that can do well on BOTH HDMI and audio. as a result, for a TRUE audiophile, the best bet is to separate video and audio. When play vidio, use PS3 or other vidio player. and use high end CD player and analog preamp for music.
If you want to use PS3 for dvd player, maybe you can consider the newer version of 40GB one. it generate less heat and more quiet. the older 60G and and newer 80G are still using the 90nm chips that generate quite a lot of heat and the fan is quite laud for a quiet room.

Are you saying "real" HDTV being the ones with HDMI 1.3 or 1080p?
1080p TV has been out for a couple of years, not a few month. HDMI 1.3 is not needed to deliver 1080p--it's only needed for 1440p. At the moment, there is no 1440p TV on the market that I know.

但是我認為PS3 是遊戲機為主，播放功能為附加價值，如果不玩遊戲的話，我認為沒必要這樣選擇，因為跟其他平平升頻輸出到1080i/1080p的機器來說，優勢就不見得強了，而且成本也沒便宜到哪去。

光當DVD player, 不用講BD, 不用提到遊戲, 他都很值得
跟一些三,四萬元頂級機種相比也毫不遜色...
我也好想買一台專門放DVD,就等女王點頭而已orz

我回答 : 高畫質專用機...
老婆的回答比較妙................"錯!!! 是YoYo高級多媒體播放器"
