Hello everyone, sorry to write in English but I thought I shared some of my impression after seeing the new CX-5 yesterday at Longtan. I currently drive a Volvo V60 and my wife has a CX-3
The new CX5 look is troubling. It is more of a CX-9 look instead of a CX-3 styling. The car has a huge radiator intake grille, almost beats Audi! The car appears not as wide as previous version and certainly posture wise, taller look. The rear lamp is disproportionally small. I mean really small! Side styling is more tame, less of a sporty look. The most troubling is the wheel arc, it is way too big. With 17in tire, it looks terrible and even with 19in, it still look not as good. The Mazda wheel rim look is also not as desirable. Come on, Mazda, you can definitely choose a more better looking one?
Inside is where most of the improvement can be felt. Cockpit is nice. Head-up display now in color is much better than my wife's CX-3. The seat cushion is now softer - great. Dashboard design looks high class but the screen, even claiming to be 7 in, is still small. I am not sure but visually it appears to be smaller than the CX-3 may be because of the form factor.
Rear seat cushion is good, and it can be adjusted to allow a more comfortable seating position. Trunk space is great! But the middle seat is really not something you can tell your mother about! I have to say, with the man-made leather, the interior of the CX-5 is only at best decent not luxury at all. It is hard for me to imagine how the top end diesel can ask for 1.45M NTD! You are entering Volvo price range.
Since I did not take a test drive and I am sure there is a lot of improvement there but overall, I have to say, I am a bit disappointed. Only two standard colors are available, the other two you need to add money. I like the auto hold and EPS handbrake but that is already becoming quite standard from other motor makers. I am holding my breath on the new CRV5. Among the three choice I have, the C-HR is nice but I have to be single which I am not, CX-5 is as expected, making some short falls, I am now counting on the CRV5.
Hope above helps reader!
