Subject: Urgent Action Required Against Taiwan’s Discriminatory Motorcycle Highway Ban
Dear President Trump,
I am writing to urge immediate action regarding a serious and ongoing trade obstruction imposed by the government of Taiwan that is directly harming American manufacturers—especially Harley-Davidson and other U.S. heavy motorcycle brands.
Despite existing Taiwanese regulations that legally permit large-displacement motorcycles to access national highways, the government has deliberately and unjustifiably refused to implement the policy in full. Instead, they hide behind manufactured “public opinion” to deny U.S. motorcycles the same road access as domestic vehicles. This is not only baseless but constitutes a clear and deliberate non-tariff barrier to trade.
The result? American companies are being locked out of a key segment of the Taiwanese transportation market, reducing the demand for our motorcycles, limiting their utility, and sabotaging their market appeal. This is a textbook example of protectionism, and we must not allow it to continue unchecked.
We urge your administration to demand that Taiwan immediately and fully open its highway system to large motorcycles—without delay or further political excuses. Should Taiwan fail to comply, we respectfully recommend the implementation of punitive tariffs of no less than 50% on Taiwanese motorcycle exports and other related products. This will send a clear and firm message that the United States will not tolerate disguised trade barriers targeting American industries.
President Trump, you have long stood for fair trade and putting America first. Now is the time to act once again—to defend American manufacturing, American jobs, and American fairness.
Thank you for your leadership.
