Toyota 86 is a nice rear wheel drive car, jointly developed between Toyota and Subaru. I suspect a lot of people will add after-market modification which can explain the engine premature failure. I do not know the exact details why this engine is beyond or still repairable. Bottom line is, if you have the engine under warranty, you should be able to get it repaired by Toyota. As to where and who repaired it, buyer should not have a say in this. As long as the engine is being repaired back to its normal condition, that is what warranty means. Without much details, and accusing Toyota uses Subaru engine, this is really out of proportion. Not surprised, as some reader point out, Taiwan media loves this kind of news! Sad. Just came back from Tokyo auto show, 86 convertible looks really nice, much like a better Miata!
