That is nice to have a foot extra space.

Well, as you just mentioned, your relatives / friends come and go. So, I would suggest you to buy a car which fit for your need at least 4/5 of a year.

Have you got a chance to test drive the CX-9 yet? I might go to take a test drive on CX-9 since I am interested to see the different between my Pilot and CX-9.

Oh boy...

How come I did not check out the CX-9 before I purchased a Honda Pilot (don't get me wrong, I am still in-love with my Honda Pilot).

CX-9 has 19hp more than a Pilot.
CX-9 has 6A (shiftable) vs Pilot 5A
CX-9 has a 20" wheel (NICE!) vs Pilot has a 16" (wt??)
CX-9 has variable intermittent rain sensing wipers
CX-9 has 4-way power passenger seat
CX-9 has alloy and wood trim on center console
CX-9 has memorized settings for 3 drivers
CX-9 has Bluetooth wireless data link for hands-free phone
CX-9 has xenon high intensity discharge headlamps

Things missing (which they put them as "options")

Moon Roof
CD changer
Roof Rack

Since I have never owned a Mazda, I wonder how is the resell value on this SUV.

After all, I think this is a good SUV with loaded standard features which I wish Honda Pilot would have.

What was the price did Mazda's dealership quote you? As you mentioned, the sales from Mazda dealerships might be slow (brand? Since Mazda is owned by Ford Motor), may be you can get some good deals. "Rumor" said Honda Pilot would have a new design for 2008 which it would come out by Aug / Sept. However, I could not wait (since my old car would die on me anytime). hehe

Honda Pilot has one thing for sure: RELIABILITY.

Mazda CX-9 is the first model year vehicle. Since I am looking to lease a vehicle, that does not really matter. But if you're thinking about purchasing one, Honda would definitely be a peace in mind.

I was thinking about Leasing as well. However, something in my mind told me that I should do a purchase. hehe

Mazda (near Rowland Heights) 報價是大約$1000 off MSRP. 就他們當天的營業狀況來看, 我想我應該可以再殺個US$500. 他說這是他們的員工價, 所以要我假裝是業代的親戚...
I suggest you to get the quotes from the Internet. $1000 off MSRP is nothing; they still make money by giving you $1500 off from MSRP.

I would always go with the invoice price and ask for the price cut. The best thing is, you are the person who purchases / leases the car. You can walk off if they don't give you the price you want (well, be reasonable. hee hee).

For example

2007 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
MSRP: $33,875
Invoice: $31,322

2007 Mazda CX-9 Sport 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
MSRP: $30,235
Invoice: $27,964

2007 Mazda CX-9 Touring 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
MSRP: $32,335
Invoice: $29,900

I am sure you have more experience in terms of purchasing / leasing a new car than me (as I had been driving used cars in past 14 yrs. haha).

I guess the most important thing is to show that you have done your homework, and you are willing to sign the lease if the price is right.

We went to the Power Honda Costa Mesa on 2/17/07 (chinese new year eve) to "just look around". We knew what model we wanted. All we wanted to get out of was the price we wanted. We went in and talked with the Internet Sales Mgr who had been sending me info in past few days / 2 weeks.

I told them I got another deal from other dealership and if they could price match. He was not too happy with my quote and he could not even authorize it. He talked with his GM and he said GM ok with the price.

Here we go.. we got the price we wanted, and I signed the paper work :) hehe

But somehow, you would need to play some mind-games with those dealers. I "learned" it hard way. Trust no one from dealerships. Stand on my feet and know what I should, and should not buy. By the time they were going thru my loan processing, they tried to sell me lot of other stuff. Of course, I *did* buy all of them. What a stupid move?!

At the end, I ended up canceling the Honda Care extended warranty and GAP insurance coverage (which I could purchase the Honda Care online, and Loan GAP coverage from the insurance company).

Good luck and keep us posted.

Surely will post some pictures once I get something new.
if you are not planning to go off-roading in the CX9, then perhaps you might want to re-consider getting the AWD version; Cali hardly get any snow (though...the climate's been a little whacky lately)

You are definately right about the reliability part...Honda and Toyotas are notorious for their robustness and of all the cars that I have owned, only my Mazda had choked on me with a tranny failure so I'm not so impressed

definately go for the extended warranty as my tranny was replaced at 50-click for free; otherwise a $5,000 job

keep us posted, would like to know what you finally settled with

it's just too bad that Taipei city is no place for big SUV's to roam about, otherwise, the CX9 is a sexy thing to own
