Well, it can connect to any TV with HDMI input but to get best result, you should have HDTV that has either 1080i or 1080p, and yes, that would be 1920x1080.
I am not sure about HDCP but since with blu ray, we are in the same region with US, so you wouldn't have any problem playing blu ray DVD from US, which is what I do.
I don't think HDCP is something you can turn on and off.
