where do you actually see that they recommand vista?
it says Sony Recommends Microsoft® Windows® XP
vista is not even offically out yet, they can not recommand something that's stil in beta.
for any so called "vista capable" its all just a gimmick, sure it's "capable" but can they really run vista to its full potential? I doubt it.
its like saying hey, this really old car is capable of doing 200mph, but ok, you will prob crash and burn.

what i was trying to say is, if you are buying a notebook at the moment, dont worry about all those advertising scheme about how it is "vista capable" rather you should buy the notebook on your own personal preference.
here is a interesting "windows xp" home requirement when it was first introduced
300 MHz processor, 128 MB of RAM, 1.5 GB of hard drive space, a Super VGA monitor and a CD-ROM or DVD drive.

(include various official windows requirement and also vista)
if you had that kinda computer back then, your computer was xp ready.
woudl you really run xp on that kinda computer? will it work?
think about it, company would back then prob put the win xp ready on their computer to boost sales( well, i dont really know, but i am guessing)
like how it is for the computers they are selling now, "vista ready"
no one will really know how it will run under your current computer set up. only time will tell.
my point is, dont think too much about how much value it will add to your investment just because it's labled "vista ready" people are hyping up too much about "vista ready" computers
i am sure vista will be a new break through, dont get me wrong.
here is an interesting article on "why vista wont suck" if you are interested and not too intimidated by English
